Back in September I did a recording session with my high school friend, and rapper Tane Kendrick. He was one of two vocalists involved in this fun little project to parody Macklemore’s “Downtown” as Cyclemore’s (Matt Hulse) “Biketown”. The idea being promoting safe cycling in Victoria. It even features local personalities including Mayor Lisa Helps, MP Murray Rankin, Brent McMahon (Ironman and two-time Olympic triathlete) and 2006 Canadian Ironman champion Jasper Blake.

The video was just recently released, so now you can enjoy it in all its cheesy glory. I have to mention that I only recorded the vocals for this song and mixed them with a royalty-free karaoke version of the original – so don’t hate on me for the backing track!

The video has even garnered some media attention …

VicNews – “Biketown music video highlights the fun of cycling”

CBC – “Victoria mayor, local celebrities lip sync in ‘Biketown’ music video”

Here’s my favorite quote from that latter article:

“People weren’t jumping on board as quickly as I would have liked. However, once I recorded the song, and I had something tangible that they could listen to, and once they heard the quality of the song, they really decided to buy into it.” – Matt Hulse

Awwww thanks Matt!
